New Music Monday

Garage Legends, Bass Rollers & Moving On

We’re deep into December now – half the city’s running on caffeine and mince pies, the other half’s pretending the Christmas party is “just a quiet one”. So I figured this week’s New Music Monday should lean into that: tunes for late trains, loud systems and those “I really should go home” moments.

This selection is proper future-retro business. You’ve got Saturn DJ gliding in on Super Plastic, a chunky club cut from J-Break, Danny Phr3ntic & Ryan Blake on Elektroshok, Jormek stepping up with a big emotional roller on Solid Breaks, UKG royalty in the form of Wookie’s “Battle”, and Yo Speed doing what Yo Speed does best on 83 – hooks, bass and bounce.

As always, I’ve been digging so you don’t have to – pulling from labels that actually care about sound, not just playlists. You just get five weapons ready for your next set, commute, gym blast or kitchen rave.

TRACK OF THE WEEK

Track of the Week — “Movin On” – Jormek (Solid Breaks Records)

“Movin On” is that perfect balance of weight and feeling – Jormek brings rolling drums, a proper low-end and melodic touches that give it a bit of heart without going soft. It feels like a tune about leaving something behind but still marching forward with your chin up. I’d drop this mid-set when the floor is locked in and you want to take them a bit deeper, or on a late-night drive when you’re in your feelings but still want the subs doing their job.

Monday Mover — “Go Past” – Saturn DJ (Super Plastic Records)

“Go Past” from Saturn DJ is a proper glide-along stepper – crisp percussion, spacey atmospheres and a bassline that feels like it’s pulling you forward. It’s got that futuristic, slightly dreamy club feel that Super Plastic do so well.
Perfect for early-to-mid set transitions, long blends, or as a rolling backdrop to a winter commute where you’re trying not to make eye contact with anyone.

Tuesday Tunage — “Mine” – J-Break, Danny Phr3ntic, Ryan Blake (Elektroshok Records)

“Mine” is big, polished club business – you can hear the combined experience in the drums, the arrangement and the low-end. It’s punchy without being messy, and there’s enough hook in there to stick in your head long after it’s done.
I’d use this to push a room up a gear, especially in a mid-to-late set when you want something that sounds big on a proper rig but still has groove and detail.

Thursday Throwback — “Battle” – Wookie (PIAS)

“Battle” is straight UKG heritage. Wookie’s swing, those emotional chords, the vocal vibe – it’s one of those tunes that manages to be both tough and tender at the same time. Proper pirate radio, night bus and sticky-floor memories all wrapped into one track.
Wheel this out when you want to remind people how powerful garage can be, or to bridge between broken-beat business and more classic 2-step flavours.

Friday Frills — “Call U Mine” – Yo Speed (83)

“Call U Mine” is Yo Speed doing what Yo Speed does best – bouncy drums, catchy motifs and bass that feels like it’s grinning at you. It’s fun without being throwaway, and it sits in that sweet spot between rave mischief and proper club craftsmanship.
Perfect for weekend peak-time, back-to-back sets with mates, or that moment where you want the whole room smiling and moving a bit looser.

Passing thought of the week: healing is real, but so is rewinding a tune three times in a row because it just hits different.
