New Music Monday
Prog-Funk, Dubstep Classics & Bassline Gifts

December’s officially gone feral. Inbox full of sales, Mariah on loop in Tesco, dads arguing with self-checkouts… so I thought I’d balance it out with something a bit more us: future-retro bass, wobbly subs, and one very misbehaving Christmas tune.
This week’s New Music Monday leans right into that 80s/90s energy but keeps both feet firmly planted in 2025. We’ve got ragga-flavoured pressure from Break Beat Connection, pure rave positivity from Super Plastic, a classic Skream moment that basically rewired UK bass, and some serious low-end business from Br8kn Records. And in the middle of it all, “5 Sleeps Till Christmas” from Drunk Dads – my ode to last-minute shoppers who’d rather be at the bar than in the toy aisle.
As always, I’ve been digging through the digital crates so you don’t have to – Bandcamp, Beatport, all the corners where the good stuff hides. You just get the goods in one hit, ready for your next mix, commute, gym blast or dodgy office party pre-game.

TRACK OF THE WEEK
Track of the Week — “5 Sleeps Till Christmas” – Drunk Dads (Ministry of Breaks)
This one’s pure chaos in the best way: 80s/90s Christmas Hip Hop energy slammed into a modern bass workout, with a nod to “No Sleep Till Brooklyn” for the heads clocking the joke. It’s for all the dads, boyfriends and professional procrastinators who’d rather sink a pint than queue for an air fryer.
Drop it at house parties, silly season warm-ups or that moment in the rave when everyone’s one drink past sensible and ready to shout along.
Monday Mover — “Progressive Funktion” – Cut & Fine (Triple Seven Recordings)“Progressive Funktion” does exactly what the title suggests – it locks you into a groove and then keeps twisting the screws. Think rolling drums, evolving synth lines and a bass that grows under your feet rather than smacking you in the face straight away. |
Tuesday Tunage — “YES MUSIC” – THE RETURN GOOD (Super Plastic)This track does exactly what the title suggests: it’s an emphatic ‘yes’ to good times. Driven by bright, rave-ready stabs, a classic filtered vocal chop, and a bouncy groove, this track is straight-up peak-time club ammunition. Stick this on when you need to lift the roof off a room or power through that mid-week gym session. |
Thursday Throwback — “Midnight Request Line” – Skream (Tempa)If you know, you know. “Midnight Request Line” is one of those tunes that didn’t just land in the scene – it changed it. Sparse drums, eerie lead line, sub moving like it’s got its own postcode… it’s the sound of early dubstep nights, smoke machines and heads huddled round the bass bins. |
Friday Frills — “Power” – Woter, Bazco (Br8kn Records)To wrap the week, we’re hitting the Power button. Woter and Bazco deliver a high-energy underground club cut that screams 4 AM in a sweaty basement. The drums are relentless, the bass is elastic, and the overall vibe is high-octane. A perfect tune to spin when you’re driving into the weekend or setting the mood for a heavy night out. |

Big love,
Passing thought of the week: if the shop’s playing the same Christmas song on repeat, treat it like a DJ set and mentally mix something better over the top.
P.S. If you're waiting for Santa, maybe worth checking the pub.
